Spring Break 2010, continued

Like I said in the the last blog, it's Saturday evening. We are on the hunt for a restaurant downtown. You can't go to Savannah and not go downtown. We arrive downtown, and needed to find a parking space. Note to self: never drive to downtown Savannah, take a taxi. The streets were full of cars. They had parallel parking nearly everywhere, and just a few parking lots. All were full. The 2 main streets were full of people. It was a mad house. We drove all around downtown 3 times. We finally found a parking spot like 6 blocks away. I was excited because we were about 2 blocks from the Lady and Sons restaurant. This is Paula Deans restaurant. They were booked for the rest of the day! I read online that you cannot call to make reservations, you have to show up in person the day you plan to visit. Now I know why they said that. Picture to left: Lady and Sons. It wasn't what I expected. Small building.

Long story short, we finally found a restaurant that was decently priced, and had a variety of food. Downfall, there was a 45 minute wait. It's 8pm by this point, so we said that is fine, even though I'm starving. We waited for about 20 minutes, then I asked for a menu. The menu shows meals $30 and up, and it's all basically seafood! I hate fish. I know, I'm on the atlantic ocean, and I expect meat, big mistake. Found out, we were looking at the lunch menu when we first noticed the prices and normal food. So...we decided to share a pizza, which was $12, and I ordered a ceasar salad, which was $7. The pizza was a personal pizza, 4 slices! You would have thought the waitress could have told us this when I said "we will be sharing this pizza." She was a ball of sunshine, so I shouldn't expect it. We probably left there around 10pm. We headed back to the car and stopped at a few small shops. To make another long story short, we saw about 3 wedding parties, and lots of other people who had been tipping the bottle. The streets were loud! So, we couldn't have gotten to the car fast enough. Moral of the story, I would have settled for the McDonalds near our hotel.
Picture to left: this is how the streets looked. Some streets were even just large stones. Picture to right: Sorry about the bad photography, we were in a moving car. There was a trolly that ran up and down the streets. Glad it wasn't coming right this second.

We went back to our hotel for the night. I'm not sure if I explained earlier what I really thought about the hotel. It was old, and the towels were thin as a sheet with a couple terrycloth ridges. The halls were dirty. And places like make me feel creepy. We survived though. This puts us into Sunday. I will write more tomorrow.

To be Continued...
